This video shows an animation from the computer flood model for Southwell that seeks to replicate how water moved through the town during the flood event of the 23rd of July 2013.

At this time the following points should be considered when viewing the flood model results:

These are early and indicative results for the July 2013 flood event

The flood model needs refining with community input.

Criticality in terms of flood return period (how often a flood of this size might be expected to occur) has not yet been resolved

The model results will look different to the maps on the Environment Agency website (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/environment-agency) because they are based on more detailed local information.

Once refined the computer flood model will be used to test the impact of putting in place different flood mitigation schemes for the town and as a tool to help outline a preferred scheme.

Information on key observations about how flooding has occurred in Southwell will help us to refine the model. For example, information on the location, depths and timing of peak flooding.

Your thoughts on future flood mitigation schemes to reduce flooding in Southwell are also sought at this time to inform the next steps of the Flood Mitigation Plan. For example, what ideas do you have for flood mitigation solutions and sources of funding?

This information is sought by the 9th of May to help inform the developing Flood Mitigation Plan.”
