The Southwell Flood Forum, affiliated to the National Flood Forum was formed in August 2013 following the ‘tropical’ storm and subsequent flooding of many homes and properties on 23rd July 2013. Many of those homes had also been flooded in June 2007 and others suffer incidents on a regular basis.

This Community Group aims to

  • engage with agencies and authorities to reduce flood risk to Southwell
  • focus on specific solutions (mainly the capacity of watercourses and surface water drainage) for those catchment areas involved, through locally based action groups such as Potwell Dyke Flood Group.
  • support people to recover after flooding and become more flood resilient

Anyone in Southwell can be involved in the Forum – whether or not you have actually been affected by flooding. All ideas, concerns, expertise will be welcome – this is a long-term project which will continue to monitor the situation and maintain Southwell’s flood resilience.
