Drain blockages

Many of our drains in Southwell are combined – 1) surface water run-off from houses, gardens, driveways, roads 2) sewage So in a heavy rainfall event (over 25mm in 30 minutes), the surface water may overwhelm the drainage system and cause the manholes to ‘pop’ and sewage leak out into the roads. Southwell community’s hopes dashed after extra funding raised

Over £156K has been raised through householders donating their surplus from their £5K Repair and Renew Grant. In some cases, people ‘donated’ the whole of their Grant towards catchment-wide flood mitigation measures, having considered that an integrated scheme would be better in the long-term.
