National Flood Forum Bulletin – September 2015

Training for Flood and Road Closure Wardens

In partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Environment Agency the group has recruited and trained around 90 Flood Wardens since 2014. Wardens attend theoretical and practical training as Road Closure Wardens with site specific risk assessments. Drain blockages

Many of our drains in Southwell are combined – 1) surface water run-off from houses, gardens, driveways, roads 2) sewage So in a heavy rainfall event (over 25mm in 30 minutes), the surface water may overwhelm the drainage system and cause the manholes to ‘pop’ and sewage leak out into the roads.
