Severn Trent Water is investing more than half a million pounds to help protect homes in Southwell, near Newark, from sewer flooding. The essential improvements, which are being carried out on Leeway Road and Lower Kirklington Road, are expected to be complete before Christmas.

Andrew Morley, programme engineer at Severn Trent Water explains why his team are already hard at work: “When sewer flooding affects homes it causes distress so we must act to protect our customers. To do this, we started improving the sewer system at the beginning of the year and we’re now installing a storm water storage tank so that it can handle the increasing amounts of rainfall we now experience.

“We’re keen to get homes protected from sewer flooding as quickly as we can. So far, we’ve installed around 300 metres of sewer pipes and our work to construct the new storage tank is going well. Our contract partner, NMCNomenca is carrying out the work on our behalf and together, we’re doing all we can to minimise disruption to the local community.”
