Money flows in for Southwell Flood Forum appeal

Residents have raised £15,000 towards measures to protect Southwell from future flooding.
Southwell Flood Forum wants to raise £125,000 as a community contribution to mitigation measures in the town.

The flood forum, made up of residents, is working with agencies such as Nottinghamshire County Council, the Environment Agency and Severn Trent Water to implement schemes.

Hundreds of homes and businesses were flooded when two months of rain fell on the town in just 30 minutes in July 2013.

Mr Rob Jordan, flood forum chairman, said: “It has come from all corners of the community. Many people came forward by themselves, unprompted. It is a good start.

“£15,000 in the context of what we are trying to get, which is £1.8m, is only a drop in the ocean but it ticks so many boxes and shows the rest of the agencies concerned how serious the people of Southwell are.
