More than 150 people attended a public meeting tonight to see a computer model which demonstrated how Southwell was affected by flooding in July.

The meeting at The Minster School, Southwell, was organised by Southwell Flood Forum to discuss what progress had been made since the flooding in the town and the next steps towards mitigation measures.

Flood consultants URS showed a computer model of how the town flooded and which areas were impacted.

There was also a presentation by Nottinghamshire County Council on the next steps in the process towards establishing what could be done to prevent future flooding.

The model showed how water flowed down the Potwell Dyke during the floods and how surface water flowed into the town in the Halam Hill area.

Members of the audience, more than half of whom had been affected by the floods, asked questions of representatives involved in creating a flood plan for the town.

Among the questions asked was when a mitigation scheme was likely to be implemented and if measures would be taken to prevent large-scale housing development in Southwell until a plan was created.
