The rain didn’t stop families in Southwell from enjoy their annual Floodfest event on Sunday.

The family fun day was organised by the Southwell Lions and Rotary club in partnership with Southwell Flood Forum. Visitors enjoyed an afternoon of activities including music performances, sport games, craft, food and drink stalls.

Traditional games included welly wanging, a wheelbarrow race, a basketball competition and splat the rat while music came from the Southwell Choral Society and MOCtet of Nottingham’s Major Oak Chorus of barbershop singers.

Teams of adults also took part in the tug-of-war competition, which saw the Young Farmers group take over the winning title from the Bramley Apple Pub, who won last year.

Mrs Jacky Huson was also promoting the sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) to homeowners in the area. She said: “As a village we are prone to flooding therefore we want people to consider installing SUDS for their properties which slow downs the water rate at which it enters the drainage system.”

Families were able to see how the system work on a model which was provided by Trent Rivers Trust and Environment Agency for the day.
