NEWARK and Sherwood District Council has partnered with LitterLotto® to launch an innovative app promoting recycling, cleanliness, and rewarding good habits.

The LitterLotto® app, new to the district, features AtHomeT™, a tool using Al to help residents determine the correct bin for their waste. Simply photograph an item, and the app will guide you on whether it’s recyclable and which bin to use. Every correctly disposed item qualifies for local and national prize draws, including a monthly £100 jackpot for residents and a weekly £1,000 national prize. Users also earn LitterLotto® Coins for additional rewards or extra jackpot entries

Participation is free, adding to the Council’s recycling efforts alongside the popular Green Rewards app. Councillor Emma Oldham highlights the app’s benefits: simplifying recycling, reducing contamination rates (currently 14%), and avoiding rejected recycling loads.
“This app makes recycling easy and offers cash prizes, which is a bonus, especially now,” she said.
The app’s second feature encourages users to pick up litter in public spaces. Snap a photo of the litter as it’s binned to enter prize draws, earning coins with every submission. Volunteers in community clean-ups can also participate.
Councillor Oldham added: “This initiative promotes responsible recycling at home and in our communities. Together with enforcement officers tackling littering, we’re creating a district we can be proud of.”
