Many of our drains in Southwell are combined – 1) surface water run-off from houses, gardens, driveways, roads 2) sewage So in a heavy rainfall event (over 25mm in 30 minutes), the surface water may overwhelm the drainage system and cause the manholes to ‘pop’ and sewage leak out into the roads.
