Update on Potwell Dyke alleviation.
Recently we were invited to an online catch-up recently with VIA on the Potwell Dyke alleviation scheme.
The outstanding three ‘holding objections’ about the project have been addressed by VIA and the interested bodies meaning the planning application will now be going to committee in January.
There will be some further archaeological investigations along the line of the bund and on the playing field, when the weather is more conducive to digging.
Local organisations and adjoining residents have been consulted all through the process. It is intended that the area will be carefully reinstated and landscaped to keep it a pleasant space for locals.
In other news, Southwell was featured on a recent East Midlands TV segment about the impact and actions taken a year after Storm Babet. Some of our comments about the Lowes Wong SuDS scheme ended up on the cutting room floor! However, it included comments about how the mitigation work that has been done under the Southwell Flood Alleviation Scheme certainly dramatically reduced the impact in Southwell when compared to the 100’s of homes which were affected for the first time around the county. We obviously feel saddened for those who were affected and can only view the recent devastation in Spain with despair. It highlighted the necessity of our Environment Agency’s flood warning service.
