Work costing £5m to help protect residents and businesses in Southwell from flooding has been given the go-ahead.
Over four years’ of work has paid off – now the next stage of work on the ground is to commence
We’re delighted that Southwell Town Council has shown unanimous support by allocating £120K towards the town’s Flood Risk Management scheme that Nottinghamshire County Council has put forward to the Environment Agency. Donations of just under £20K by Southwell residents and supporters into the Southwell Flood Fund will be added to the partnership funding from our District and County Councils required by Government to add to Flood Defence Grant-in-Aid funding for our flood risk reduction measures. We have also emphasised the enormous number of hours volunteered to be recognised as donations ‘in kind’. We are determined that local knowledge and experience will continue to support the scheme’s design and implementation.
Therese Coffey, minister in DEFRA gave her support to our project when our MP Robert Jenrick and local County Councillors, Bruce Laughton and Roger Jackson met her recently in Westminster.
