Mike Wilkinson of University of Sheffield will talk on Beth Chatto inspired and flood mitigating gravel gardens.

A gravel garden is a great option for a low maintenance garden.

It lends itself to Mediterranean-style drought-tolerant planting so things like lavender, euphorbias, Cistus, Santolina and Phlomis are ideal and provide plenty of nectar and pollen for visiting insects.

It also is a permeable surface which allows water to drain away, particularly if combined with soakaways or pipe drainage system.

Venue: W. I. Hall, Shepherd’s Row, off Queen Street.

Time: 7.30 for 8pm

Entrance: £2 for members, £4 for visitors/non-members. Includes a glass of wine on arrival at 7.30.

Enquiries: Chrissie Dale – 01636 816339
