Concerns have been raised that there could be a fatal accident on a corner of a main road prone to flooding.

The corner of the former A612 — which was recently downgraded — is a tight S-bend just before Upton when approached from Southwell.

It regularly floods during heavy rain.

Upton residents are concerned there could be a serious accident caused by the flood water.

Upton Parish Council has contacted Nottinghamshire County Council, which deals with highways issues.

Mr Bruce Laughton, the area’s county councillor, said the county council’s highways department had told him it was unlikely work to prevent the flooding would be undertaken before September.

He said: “Unless we sort the problem with the water there is going to be a fatality because people are hitting the flooded bend at speed.

“The county council has got to recognise the concerns about that road because it is dangerous.”
