A Song for Southwell
specially written to commemorate the flood of 2013
The Song for Southwell came about from a simple idea to inject a bit fun into what was becoming a long dark winter after the flood. Everybody (well most people) enjoy a good sing along.
So when Katy mentioned a Community Song to Roger Eastty, President of Southwell Lions, he too liked the idea and said he would sponsor the commission, which Guy Turner, a lay-clerk at the Minster and composer, has now completed.
The result is an amusing song looking back at 23rd July 2014 with humour.
Under the baton of the composer himself on 19th July, we will have a ‘rehearsal’ to make sure it is ready, after which the first performance will be recorded for posterity. Come along and join in. We hope to involve schools, churches and other organisations, so we should make an impressive sound.
For more information on the performance and to order a paper copy of the music (£1 towards Southwell Flood Fund) contact Katy 01636 819233 email: info@southwellfloodforum.org.uk
